baci's babies week :: baci's baking | Baby Shower Mocktails

Before we get started, we just want to wish our baby brother, Andy, a very Happy 18th Birthday!!!  Wow, that makes me feel old ;o)

While mimosas are a staple at most showers, having something the guest of honor can't drink isn't the most polite thing to do.  So if you're hosting a Baby Shower, serve up some fabulous mocktails!!  Oh, and Fre makes an alcohol-free champange so you can still make "mimosas" for the mommy-to-be if she'd like :o)

Here are three tasty mocktail recipes that would be perfect for any Baby Shower!

Creamsicle Punch
Original Recipe from HGTV

Makes about 16 servings.

Ingredients:
1/2 gallon fresh orange juice, chilled
one 1-oz. package vanilla instant non-fat pudding
1 liter ginger ale, chilled
1 pint non-fat vanilla frozen yogurt

Directions:
Put the orange juice into a large punch bowl and whisk in the pudding mix until completely dissolved. When ready to serve, drop small scoops of the yogurt into the punch and pour in the ginger ale. Serve immediately.

Sparkling Sunshine Punch
Original Recipe from HGTV

Makes about 16 servings.

Ingredients:
half gallon white grape juice, chilled
12 red seedless grapes
1 bottle (750 ml) sparkling red grape juice cocktail, chilled
1 liter lemon-flavored mineral water or seltzer, chilled

Directions:
Pour two cups of the grape juice into a pitcher. Fill the compartments of a 12-portion mini-muffin tin 3/4 of the way full and place in the freezer until frozen, about two hours. Meanwhile, cut each grape lengthwise into 8 even wedges. When the juice in the muffin tin has frozen, arrange one grape in a concentric circle, overlapping slightly, in each compartment, resembling a flower. Very slowly fill each muffin cup to the rim with more grape juice without disturbing the pattern. Freeze until firm. Make several batches of the blossoming grape ice cubes and refresh them as they melt in the punch.

To make the punch, fill a large punch bowl with the white grape juice, then add the sparkling red grape juice and lemon seltzer. Remove the muffin tin from the freezer and let stand five minutes for the cubes to release from the pan. Carefully remove the frozen grape "flowers" from the muffin tin with a small spatula and float them in the punch. Serve immediately.

Sparkling Rosemary Limeade
Original Recipe from The Kitchn

Makes about 8 servings.

Ingredients:
1 cup lime juice (from about 6 limes)
3/4 cup sugar
Peel of 2 limes
Two 4-inch sprigs fresh rosemary, plus more to serve
4 to 6 cups chilled sparkling water

Directions:
Stir the lime juice with the sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Lower the heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the lime peel and the rosemary sprigs. Simmer for another minute, then turn off the heat. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Strain out the lime peel and rosemary and mix with the chilled sparkling water in a sealed jar or bottle. Taste and add more water if you want a lighter flavor.

Serve over ice with a small sprig of rosemary muddled into the drink.

baci's babies week :: Handpicked | Baby Shower Gifts

Earlier this year we dedicated an entire week to one thing everyone loves - BABIES!!  And we're back at it again this week to share great tips, gift ideas and some beautiful baby-focused designs we've been working on :o)  First up, fabulous baby shower gift ideas!

As with any shower, it's always best to shop from the registry - after all momma and daddy-to-be have thought long and hard (and probably researched, argued and debated - lol!) about what they need.  Besides, figuring out how to care for a newborn baby and hassling to return unwanted items all at the same time is just no fun.  So whenever possible shop the registry -  keep some of these great gifts in mind when picking from their provided options, I'm sure they're bound to include a few!

I've listened to all of my mommy friends over the years about their opinions and advice about what the "must haves" are - here are just a few of them :o)

1)  A Travel System - this in "non-baby having terms" means the car seat and stroller work together as one unit.  These little lovelies have car seats that pop into bases buckled into the car (be sure to buy a second one for daddy's car!) so you don't have to unbuckle every time.  The car seat also fastens into the stroller (having one that is simple enough to fold up with one hand is a must!) and later when the baby is bigger the stroller works all on its own.  Since travel systems are pricey they're a great group gift option!

2)  A Great-looking Diaper Bag Neutral Enough for Dad to Carry -  Diaper bags are a necessary evil, but they don't have to ugly anymore (everyone say, "YAY!").  Pick one out that is fashionable enough for mommy to carry (let's leave the cartoon characters elsewhere), yet not too girly for dad to haul around (because you know he will).

3)  Sophie the Giraffe Teether - I've seen this adorable little teether everywhere I turn - it  the perfect "gift topper"!

4)  Bumbo Baby Sitter - My sister-in-law and brother-in-law swore by this seat - it helps the baby sit upright until is can sit up all by itself.  Great after the six month mark when the baby starts eating solid foods!

5) Baby Carrier or Sling - Keeps baby close and momma hands free!  The BABYBJĂ–RN Baby Carrier is a classic.

6)  Disposable Diapers - Even if mom and dad intend to diaper their baby in the cloth numbers, they'll most likely still use disposables when traveling or sending the baby to grandma and grandpa's - meaning every one will still need diapers at some point.  I've been told Pampers Swaddlers are where it's at by all of my baby-toting friends!  Note:  Don't buy too many newborn diapers - little ones don't stay in these long enough to warrant boxes and boxes of them.

7)  Nipple Cream - There isn't a lady out there who hasn't told me there is one thing you can't live without when breast feeding - Nipple Cream.  If your pregnant friend doesn't realize she'll need it - help her out and add a tub to her shower gift :o)

8)  Baby Prints Frame - Most hospitals only get footprints of the newborn while in the hospital, so help the new mom and dad out by buying them a keepsake frame for both those adorable piddy and hand prints!

9)  Books - You can never go wrong buying books for a new baby - starting a library for a young children is forever giving!  Check out Amazon's list of top children's books for ideas!

Christmas in July :: baci designs | Cursaro Holiday Card

This is what happens when Ilario and I try to get Morris to pose with us - thankfully the result was hysterical, but we were honestly trying to go for a cozy family scene and not serious goofiness, lol!  Once again, we got quite the wonderful feedback from family and friends who got this little number in the mail :o)

Christmas in July :: baci designs | Jesse Holiday Card

Last December, Jami and I might have had a little too much fun with our holiday cards - lol!  Every year since we've had Morris, Ilario and I have taken a "family" photo and sent out custom designed holiday cards.  Well this year, Jami and Eric joined in on the fun and they decided to take it to a whole other level!  The result was an awesome and quirky "Merry Grinch-mas" card - are they not the cutest things ever??  We got rave reviews from friends and family on this one :o)

Another great custom designed suite from this time last year was Kristi and Hiran's Lavender Cherry Blossom Pocket Invitation.  Kristi knew exactly what she wanted, but couldn't find it anywhere - luckily she's the sister-in-law of one of my dear friends and they sent her my way!  We started with the adorable cherry blossom design and layered beautiful goodness from there.  I just adore the way these lovelies turned out!

While perusing Oh So Beautiful Paper (one of my favorite places to gather amazing inspiration!) this week, I came across this fabulous idea and just had to share!  The bottom of the invitation is a small vellum envelope with a flat printed vellum map folded up inside - such a unique way to incorporate much needed information :o)  Oh and "map to our heart" - are you kidding me with the cuteness level there?!?!

Lovebird Productions | Guest Wish List

I love the little bit of Southern Charm today's lovely lady brings to my life.  The oh-so-sweet Katie of Lovebird Productions (this woman is not only an awesome videographer, but she runs a great blog, people - you must check it out!) is up today with some serious greatness of a wish list!!  Let's wish her a happy early 25th birthday and pretend that doesn't make me feel old even one teeny bit ;o)  Thanks so much for sharing, Katie!!

Hey y'all! Thanks for letting me share my current wish list with you today. Who doesn't like daydreaming about our favorite trends?

In a little under two months I will be celebrating my 25th birthday. For those of you who don't know me, birthdays are celebrated like national holidays complete with champagne, dancing and a new make me feel so pretty dress. Hopefully this year I get to celebrate with a few cupcakes, my loved ones and maybe a thing or two on this wish list.

1. I love this blue chair. Ever since I started blogging a year ago I have been searching and bottom testing the perfect chair. I haven't found "the one" but I think this blue number could be a top ranker.

2. This lip tint is amazing y'all! I recently got it in my May birchbox and I am addicted. I apply mutliple times a day.

3. I love a good pair of wedges. Target never fails me.

4. I have been secretly wanting to splurge on this custom clutch. I am a big fan of Oatmeal and Lace.

This has been such a fun post. I hope my husband reads this! ;) Thanks again for letting me share and happy, happy Friday!

Post-wedding True Brides {Kyle + Katy}

Does everyone remember Katy and Kyle from their engagement picture shoot AND their True Bride post, yes....they have already been featured on our blog TWICE and they are back for a THIRD time with a Post-wedding True Brides post!!!

Mr. Kyle and Mrs. Katy Richards were married on December 31st, 2011 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Florida, Ohio!
Mr. & Mrs. Richards :)
Describe your wedding ceremony:
Our wedding ceremony followed the traditional Lutheran wedding ceremony. It was simple, but sweet.  We hadn't wanted anything more than that.
First Dance as Husband and Wife
Describe your wedding reception:
Our wedding reception actually had two parts. We held the dinner in the church's hall immediately after the ceremony. That part included the dinner, speeches, and traditional things such as first dances, etc. Then, the second part was held at Okolona Tavern where we had a closed private party and danced the night away... oh, and counted down to midnight for New Year's :) We did it this way in an effort to save money, since we were able to rent the church hall for next to nothing!

What was the most special part of your wedding day?
The most special part was marrying my best friend and being able to celebrate with our closest friends and family.

What was the most stressful part about your wedding day?
The most stressful part, honestly, was getting everything set up and ready the night before. I had about a three hour window to get everything set up before the wedding rehearsal started! Needless to say I had a few small “bridezilla” moments. Haha.
The Bride
Who was your favorite wedding vendor and why?
We didn't have very many vendors since Kyle and I did a lot of the things ourselves. Really the only vendor we had was the caterer, which was D & J Catering Service out of Wauseon. They were fantastic! We had ordered the BBQ meal (I know, what you are thinking... BBQ and a white dress?! Is she crazy?! haha) and the food was awesome!

Did you plan a honeymoon and if so, where?

Since Kyle had just started a new full-time job, he didn't have much vacation time, so we actually haven't taken a full-fledged honeymoon yet (insert sad face here), but we did get away for a night of relaxation by staying at Belamere Suites in Perrysburg.
A tender/silly moment during the vows after Kyle tried to put the ring on Katy's right hand!!
*** Anything else you would like to share about your wedding day?
Looking back on it, though I was glad I was able to share the day with close friends and family, I feel like I would have been just as content running away and eloping. I see current brides-to-be who have friends and family members planning and stressing and I would love to shake them and tell them “Listen, it doesn't matter what color chair you sit in at the reception, you won't remember those silly details anyways!”

Wedding Wednesday | Katie + Kevin's Wedding Stationery {Kent, Ohio}

Monday marked one year of wedded bliss for my beautiful college roommate, Katie, and her hubby, Kevin, so it's high time I show off her wedding stationery!!  Inspired by her peacock theme, we designed a fun photo strip inspired save the date bookmark (Katie is an English teacher, so we thought it was fitting!!).  We continued the shades of blues and greens onto the modern cream felt wave invitation suite, complete with coordinating reply postcard and reception card.  We carried the design through to the ceremony programs, table numbers, thank you cards and bookmark escort cards that doubled as favors!  The suite was the perfect reflection of Katie and Kevin's modern and fun wedding day!
