Ann Taylor LOFT - My Current Wish List

I don't know about any one else but I LOVE Ann Taylor LOFT (we all know Amanda loves them too, she's done 1, 2, 3 Ann Taylor LOFT Handpickeds in the past!)!!! I could shop there everyday and never get tired of it--I may end up broke, but I would look good doing it :-)

With the weather changing, hopefully for the best soon, I thought it would be fun to put together a cute, but simple outfit from Ann Taylor LOFT.

1) Swaying Floral Drapey Shell - $49.50 - I picked this cute, floral top that says nice weather is soon to come!! 2) Pointelle Open Front Cardigan in Wrought Iron - $49.50 - This is a light knit cardigan I can put over a tank top on summer day. 3) Dark Rinse Cargo Shorts - $49.50 - Cute dark shorts that can go with anything. 4) Vlada Bow Sandal - $29.50 - Simple flip flops to complete my outfit!

1 down -- 100 more to go!!

On my list of things to do for the wedding was meet with our caterer. Well, I finally had a chance to do that last week on my only day off. My mom, Eric, and I got the opportunity to meet up with Kim Brown from Classic Catering by Kim Brown. My mom and I had met her before because she catered for my sister's wedding, however, this was Eric's first time EVER I believe meeting a caterer, so he was in for treat.

I was so happy that Kim could fit us into her schedule so quickly for a meeting to discuss the many options we have for food. Eric and I were surprised by just how many different things there were to choose from. We could even bring in a recipe and she would make it for us, amazing!! And a plus for having things catered is the option to use some of the items she has for no extra cost, such as: table cloths, napkins, twinkle lights, or glass vases. Which I think that is impressive!!

If you live around me, in the Defiance, Ohio area, I highly recommend Kim Brown if you have not already found your caterer. Eric and I are looking forward to working with her more to make our wedding day food perfect for all of our guests and ourselves.

baci's baking - Chipotle Pork Loin with Italian Simmered Rice

A few months ago I signed up for a Real Simple subscription and it has already proved to be a great idea, even after only one issue!

As I read magazines, I tear out pages that peak my interest - recipes, home decorations ideas, etc - and put them in a folder labeled "Inspiration". I used to feel bad defacing my magazines, but I realized that I can never find anything if I try to look back (I tried that for about the first three years of my Better Homes and Gardens subscription and I swear I'm still looking for some ideas!!) and after all, no one else reads them after I'm done ;o) Every few weeks, I go through my folder and throw away things that I don't like and I format (cut off raw edges, put through a hole punch) any recipes to put away in my Recipe Organizer (I love my Wilton Kitchen Keepsakes one!).

Today you all get to benefit from my anal retentiveness ;o) I ripped these two recipes out of the most recent Real Simple Issue and cooked them right up for our friends, Rachel and Aaron, this past Thursday - the result was super tasty, tasty enough to share with all of you! The Chipotle Pork Loin recipe has a Black Bean Salad recipe with it, which sounds super yummy, but I didn't go in the Mexican direction with these meal - it was all about comfort food and Swanson's Italian Simmered Rice was the perfect compliment. Enjoy!

Chipotle Pork Loin with Italian Simmered Rice
Original Recipes from Real Simple and Campbell's Kitchen

Pork Loin
1 t. ground chipotle chili pepper or chili powder (I used the chili powder.)
1 t. paprika
1/2 t. ground cumin
1/4 t. ground coriander (I left the coriander out and it was still delicious!)
4 T. olive oil
kosher salt
1 1/2 pounds boneless pork loin

Rice
1 3/4 cups Swanson® Chicken Broth
1 t. Italian seasoning, crushed
3/4 cup uncooked regular long-grain white rice
1 cup chopped fresh spinach
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1) Heat oven to 375° F. In a small bowl, combine the chipotle pepper, paprika, cumin, coriander, 1 tablespoon of the oil, and 1 teaspoon salt.
2) Place the pork on a rimmed baking sheet and coat with the spice mixture. Roast until the internal temperature of the pork registers 145° F, 40 to 50 minutes. Let rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing.
3) Meanwhile, heat the broth and Italian seasoning in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil.
4) Stir the rice and spinach in the saucepan. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the rice is tender. Stir in the cheese. Serve with additional cheese.

Handpicked - Non-traditional Wedding Cakes

Non-traditional Wedding Cakes are becoming more and more popular. I personally love something different, especially if you are tying the cake into a themed wedding! Some people may think non-traditional cakes are weird and crazy, in some cases that may be true, but normally it is just part of the couples' theme or personality. I handpicked some non-traditional wedding cakes and I will leave it up to you to vote if they're just plain weird or fun!

1- Rice Krispie Cake on thebrokeassbride.com - I actually really enjoy this and it would be so simple to make and then add ribbon or flowers to incorporate your wedding colors!
2- Doughnut cake on thebrokeassbride.com
3- Dessert cake on weddingplans.livejournal.com - This is something fun for couples who love desserts such as: Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, and Twinkies!!
4- Tie-dye wedding cake on bridella.com
5- Cinderella cake on weddingcakespictures.org - If you want the fairytale wedding, this may be the perfect cake for you.
6- Mario wedding cake on bad-assweddings.com
7- Orange cake on weddingandcakes.com - I love this!! It's fun, but you would not being going too over the top with this amazing looking cake.
8- Lily Cake on weddings.theknot.com
9- Monogram cake on weddings.theknot.com - A very cute black and white cake, but still non-traditional because of the shape and monogram. But I love it!!

Weekend Wedding Get Away - My Current Wish List

Weddings, Weddings, and More Weddings!!!

From the months of June until October, I have at least eight weddings (that I know of so far) and four of them are more than an hour away, which means possibly preparing myself for a long car ride or even a weekend away from my home. So I am putting together a "Weekend Wedding Get Away" Kit for myself.

1) Cheerio's Cereal (2 boxes) on meijer.com, $5.58 - Yes, I picked a box of cereal to be in my kit, but if any of you know me, you know my love for cereal and it's quick, easy, and not messy way of getting a bite to eat. 2) Nike Women's Comfort Thong Sandal on finishline.com $27.99 - I need a comfy pair of sandals to wear in the car. 3) Apple iPod Touch--8GB MP3 Player with Touch Screen on target.com, $229.99 - An iPod is perfect for the long car ride there and back AND if you have an iPod dock, you can jam out while getting ready for the wedding also--double bonus!! 4) Small Duffel on verabradley.com, $69 - Perfect for a weekend get away, big enough to fit just the right amount of clothes.

Join baci's book club!!

Earlier in the week during my most recent baci's baking post, I mentioned book club and promised I would delve into it deeper later in the week, well here I am, about to delve in ;o)
When Ilario and I moved back to Ohio in the Fall of 2008, I joined my sister-in-law, Cathy, at her current book club. Shortly afterwards a few of us branched off and started our own book club which I began organizing and hosting at my home on a monthly basis (well actually my in-laws house because I didn't have a home at the time!). That was November of 2008 and ten members. Fast forward to April of 2011 with thirty members and a Waiting List!! What I will call baci's book club for simplicity's sake, has come a long way - there are only a few of us original members left, but collectively we have compiled such a great group of women that I am proud to be in cahoots with :o)

Now that you have a little background on baci's book club, I'll fill you in on why I'm telling you all of this, lol! Each month after baci's book club meets, I'll write a little recap of the meeting, along with our next month's book choice and meeting date (everyone works harder with a deadline, right?). Then you, baci's book club eMembers, can comment on the post with your thoughts on the month's read and start reading the next month's book choice with us!

We're all in book club to find out what other people are interested in reading or recommend reading (and to socialize, of course!), so now you can do the same with us from the comfort of your own home, wherever you are!! There's also a bonus - each month we rotate who brings an appetizer, dessert or booze so the Tuesday after each meeting I'll share one of our favorite recipes from the night! Everyone wins when food is involved ;o)

So how do I become a baci's book club eMember, you ask. . . just fill out the form at the bottom of the post AND THEN I'll send you a baci bookmark in the mail, it's as simple as that! Be sure to tell your friends, because the more members we have the greater book club becomes!!

To get you going, here is what we're reading for the month of May - Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (we LOVE reading a book then watching the movie!).

And to give you a nice jump start on your "Want to Read List", here are books we have read in the past:

Kane & Abel by Jeffrey Archer
Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home by Rhoda Janzen {The club as a whole wasn't a huge fan of this one.}
Cain and Abel by Michelle Perry {A happy accidental read :o)}
The Kids Are All Right by Diana and Liz Welch
Little Bee by Chris Cleave
Firefly Lane and Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah {We love Kristin Hannah!}
The Wife's Tale by Lori Lansens
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert {This is one of my favorites, but the club wasn't such a fan. . .}
The Four Seasons by Mary Alice Monroe
The Friday Night Knitting Club and Knit Two by Kate Jacobs
Best Friends by Martha Moody
The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows {A wonderful read!}
Hissy Fit and Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews {We really love Mary Kay Andrews and can't wait for Summer Rental to be released in June!}
The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb {I honestly couldn't bring myself to finish this one :o(}
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein {Great, great book!}
Life of Pi by Yann Martel {The club didn't like this one too much either, but it's definitely an interesting/perplexing one!}
Self Storage: A Novel by Gayle Brandeis
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Missing Mom by Joyce Carol Oates

So what are you favorites? Any of the ones we have read peak your interest? What do you recommend we read next?

I hope this provides you all great choices of books to read and a wonderful chance for online conversation :o) I look forward to reading with you!! Thanks!

Baby Shower Game Ideas

Baby Shower Brunch Invitation by baci designer stationery + events

Baby showers are a time to get together with some of your close friends and family to celebrate an amazing gift entering someone's life. One of my friends, Brittany, is having a baby shower soon and I was in charge of finding a game to play.
I think games are one of the most challenging things to do for any type of shower (bridal or baby) because it is up to you to make sure people have fun and don't get bored when playing games.

Guessing how big mommy's tummy is and not saying the word baby for the entire shower are a few games I remember playing a lot at baby showers. Then you have a few paper games, such as: baby bingo, nursery rhyme quiz, or a baby related word scramble.

Personally at showers, I like the games to be short but kind of challenging.

Two games I am looking at picking for the baby shower are a "Celebrity Mom and Dad" quiz--which is matching the celebrity parents to their children's names or "Baby Animal" quiz--which is matching the animal to their baby name. I like these two games because they seem fun and I believe guests would have fun completely guessing (or maybe they will know them).

Do you have any baby shower game favorites?

Wedding Wednesday | Wedding Cakes

Picking a wedding cake has been probably one of the hardest things to do. I am constantly changing my mind on what I want my cake to look like because the cake is important, however, not the most important to me. Therefore it has not been one of my greatest concerns.
My grandma and mom will collectively be making my cake, so I do not want it to be hard and very time consuming since they will be helping me with lots of other wedding things. People have pointed out to me though that picking a cake is important, so I have been in search for a cake I will love.

I went to this website and found some fabulous cakes, but I need your help on what you think because I don't want people walking into my reception saying, "What was she thinking?"

There will be color to them, but look at the design, form, and uniqueness of the cake and let me hear some opinions. Thanks!!

Easter Dress - My Current Wish List

As a kid, I hated dressing up for Easter in all those big, puffy, fancy dresses my mother wanted me to wear. Now that I am older and have a choice, I love dressing up for Easter (or any holiday for that matter--any reason to buy a new dress). I love dress shopping!! You may be wondering, "Why?", but honestly I do not know why because I hate clothes shopping, but sometimes dresses just make a girl feel more powerful and beautiful! I have been searching for a nice and comfy Easter Dress that I could wear all day and possibly wear again.

1) a.n.a. Crossover Belted Dress with Pockets on jcpenny.com, $19.99- Very cute and comfy, still has a little bit of black in it (black is my comfort color)!! 2) Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Smock Bodice Dress (Floral Print) on target.com, $24.99- Something simple that you can pair up with a cute cardigan and wear again. 3) Nine West Floral Empire Waist Dress on macys.com, $138- A different color than I normally would go for, but I can't help liking this one, too!! 4) Knit Dress with Ruffle Trim in Coral Glow on anntaylorloft.com, $49.50- I LOVE this dress and it's not black!!

Blog Followers---What's your opinion on these four dresses?

A little bit of Tradition---Continued

I recently did a post about traditions when it comes to weddings and I shared a few classic and family traditions that people may be familiar with. However, I promised I'd let you in on a few wedding traditions my family has started.

As most of you know already, my sister, Amanda, also the owner of baci designer stationery + events, got married what will be 4 years ago in October. As her own wedding planner, she had many great ideas. She also had many ideas that came from traditions on her and her husband's side. One tradition that was brought upon by her husband's side was a cookie bar--all the Aunts made different cookies and they were displayed at the wedding reception to eat (which is a type of Italian tradition). As my wedding planning began, my mother told me that the cookie bar is something she would like to keep going in our family now and I could not have agreed more! I simply loved this idea. Unfortunately our brother Andy has no choice when his time comes--which hopefully will not be until he turns 80 :)

Photo by Brandy J Photography of Amanda's Cookie Bar

Another tradition that was started with my sister is having a rosary in the bouquet. I believe that bouquets are beautiful by themselves, but even MORE beautiful with a rosary, it just adds a touch of something. Amanda used my Grandma's rosary. My cousin, Casey, also had a rosary in her bouquet. The one she carried was our Grandpa's. So I am excited to carry this tradition on. I have not decided whose or what rosary I would like to use, but I am sure our readers will find out eventually!!

Photo of Casey's Bridal Bouquet

I know this next one may not be much of a tradition to anyone else and it does not pertain to the wedding itself. However, a tradition the Guilford side of our Family has started is taking a picture of all the granddaughters (that are present) with Grandma at the reception (however, only girls have ever gotten married yet--so I'm not sure what will happen when one of the boys gets married, ha). This tradition started at my cousin, Kate's wedding and continued through Amanda and Casey's as well.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed finding out a few traditions I will be carrying on, feel free to let us in on some of your favorite traditions!!

Wedding Wednesday | Bridesmaid Dress

One of the items on my "To Do" list for my wedding was to find a bridesmaid dress. I have been searching for months to find a beautiful dress for my six best friends!! Whenever I went wedding dress shopping, I would make one of the girls try on bridesmaid dresses. The conclusion from that was to order long dresses because I have some tall girls and there were TONS of dresses with LARGE slits up the back (oh ya, you could see a lot more than what you bargained for). Long dresses make the wedding look more sophisticated and Eric suggested long dresses, too (which was what I was going to do if Eric actually added his input--duh).

After I finally found my wedding dress, the bridesmaid dress shopping kind of came to a hault because of everyone's different schedules. However, I started looking online and my sister suggested getting our dresses through NetBride because that is where she had gotten her bridesmaid dresses. Also since everyone is in a different place, ordering online would be much more easier. All my girls would have to do is get measured, and presto--order all the dresses at one time :-) Sounds easy, huh!!!

I really liked the AfterSix Bridesmaid Dresses and narrowed it down to three choices. I had Eric, Amanda, Ilario, Mom, and my girls look at the three dress choices I had chosen and it was a unanimous vote!!!

These were the 3 dress choices, all in "Concord". My perfect pick is in here obviously, but would I just flat out tell you which one I choose, Never! So I want your opinion....which one would you have chosen to be your bridesmaid dress? And eventually, maybe I will tell you which one we are going to be ordering---or---maybe I will make everyone wait patiently for the wedding :-)

Wedding Wednesday | Jesse + Laurinda 10.16.10 {Detroit, Michigan}

Remember my Fall Wedding Planning Post from last year about the October Wedding baci was Planning and Coordinating? What about the Invitation Sneak Peek from last July? Well, here are the rest of the details from the wedding that turned out absolutely perfect!!

Ilario and I teamed up for our first full-fledged Day Of Coordination Job for our dear friends, Jesse and Laurinda, in Michigan at Twin Lakes Golf & Swim Club on what was possibly the most beautiful mid-October day ever. The sun was shining brightly at the outdoor ceremony held on the Gazebo, it was breath-taking and quite the perfect first experience for Ilario and I!

Not only did baci serve as the Partial Wedding Planner and provide Day of Coordination Services, we also designed and printed the couple's wedding stationery - from the Save the Date Postcard requesting that guests RSVP early to the Invitation Suite made of recycled, handmade plantable paper - an exciting first for baci - complete with recycled brown bag envelopes and twine to tie the whole package together! We even "engraved" "J + L" on the tree trunk :o)

This job was not only special because we think of Jesse and Laurinda as two of our very best friends, but also because they had so many wonderful and creative ideas for their wedding!! And now you get to take a special look into their gorgeous day by viewing their Wedding Album Video, designed and created by Elite Entertainment in Warren, Michigan - Enjoy!!

All the other vendors that made this day possible:
Bridal Gown - "I Do" Too! Bridal
Bridesmaid Dresses - David's Bridal
Hair & Make-up - Leslie Castaneda

Hotel Accommodations - Hampton Inn Detroit/Auburn Hills
DJ & Videography - Elite Entertainment
Rentals - Linens & Beyond
